Marmalade Atkins (1982-1984)
Charlotte starred as Marmalade, the "worst girl in the world", in Thames TV's version of Andrew Davies' books.
While Davies' scripts were terrific fun, the casting of Charlotte as Marmalade was the masterstroke which carried the series to another level. Thanks to her own charm, Marmalade remained immensely likeable even as she was "putting herself about" and making the other characters lives a misery.
Anyone who's ever watched a BBC or ITV children's comedy from the last thirty years will be able to imagine how bad the series could have been with a less talented actress in the lead role. As it is, Charlotte's performance stands proud alongside those of her more experienced co-stars such as John Bird and Elizabeth Estensen.
