Part of the ITV Saturday
pattern of 9.25 Teleganticmegavision, 10.25 It's Not
Just Saturday.
Made by Media Merchants
(proprietor - N. Buchanan) for Meridian.
Presenters - Emma Lee
(blonde, was on Watch This Space and that sort of
rubbish, now on the Disney Channel or somewhere) and Dave
Chapman (probably better known as the voice of Otis the
Aardvark).
The premise - Set in the
Teleganticmegavision 'studio complex' (ie Maidstone
Studios), and each programme would include behind the
scenes of some programme or other (coincidentally all
Media Merchants productions -
Art Attack, Terror Towers etc.), some features on special
effects or something, and cartoons (the usual -
Animaniacs et al) which were introduced from the
'animation station', which is where they were supposed to
have been 'made'.
A typical exchange would be
something like:
Presenter walks down corridor
Presenter - "Oh look, it's Danni off Neighbours,
what are you doing here?"
Danni off Neighbours - "I'm having an interview in
Studio One!"
Presenter - "Oh, let's practice!"
and then they'd just do an interview.
After a few weeks, after
that got really tiresome, it became a bog-standard
Saturday show, with a whooping crew, and guests just
turning up and so on.
Was crap because:
a) Target audience was about six years old, which was
hopeless when It's Not Just Saturday was trying
to court kids about twice that age, so nobody would watch
both.
b) Deeply contrived.
c) It was all pre-recorded and boring anyway.
d) Had a stupid, stupid name.
After a few weeks, the
pattern was changed to 9.25 Teleganticmegavision, 10.25
Repeats of Spatz, 10.55 a shorter version of It's Not
Just Saturday.
On the last programme, they
said 'See you in September!' They never did though.
