Although
often credited with being the first true Saturday morning show,
Tiswas was, for a long time, shown only in the ATV (Midlands)
area.
- From January 1979 it was
also broadcast by Anglia, Granada and STV. HTV soon
joined in (having previously shown excerpts as part of
its "Ten on Saturday" melange).
- The 1979/80 season was
caught up in the industrial disputes which took ITV off
the air from August till November 1979. When it finally
started, the programme was now also broadcast by Border,
Grampian and Yorkshire.
- Following the demise of Saturday
Banana at the start of 1980, Southern took the show
for the first time, swiftly followed by LWT.
- Westward joined in from the
1980/81 series, having got fed up with their own Morning
Picture Show. Tyne Tees were also among the last regions
to pick up the show.
- Then, having taken six
years to win over the entire country, the programme went
crap and finished!
- It went crap mainly because
Chris Tarrant left and was replaced by Gordon Astley, who
by all accounts was not an entirely fitting replacement.
- It was possibly never shown
by Channel TV.

know about Tiswas - such as what it was actually
like, if you don't already know - can be found on the
