Tricky the
Cartoon Dinosaur (voice: Marc Duane)
Claudia Winkleman
1996'sWOW! didn't take off in its brief
run, so the following year it was replaced with Tricky
(30th August - 20th December).
Tricky also failed
to take off - possibly because it was...
"...Awful, awful,
awful." (Satkids contributor Peter Thomas.)
"On the whole, really
shit," agrees Steve Williams, who adds:
"Tricky was a cartoon
dragon, who'd do the whole programme by himself. Sounds
great already, doesn't it? And it was live! Basically,
Tricky really was a cartoon, and he'd 'sit' there and
jerkily move (and blink a lot, of course) for two hours
while a bloke called Marc Duane did a live voice-over.
He'd link cartoons and do 'interviews' - ie, guests would
pre-record their answers, and they'd drop in 'Tricky''s
questions later on."
"This was all a bit
boring for two hours, just watching a three-frame
animation jerking a bit, so after a while they got in
Claudia Winkleman to do some live OBs from a toy shop,
where they'd play some games or something. I dunno
really, I didn't watch it much, for obvious
reasons."
The programme was made by
Granada, and produced by Murray 'Club X' Boland.
The second edition was
cancelled for Princess Diana's funeral.
Connection with the once
popular trip-hop artist of the same name unknown and,
frankly, debatable.
